Brief History

On October 11, 1993 the eve of discovery day, 100 Jamz was on the air. With Steve Haughey as The Tribune's financial controller and Robert Carron being the General Manager at the time, worked hard to build the station, with Steve travelling to various islands settings up towers and keeping a watchful eye over them. At the time, a sub-station was established in Fort Lauderdale, Miami as a training ground for the staff until the Nassau station was strong enough to stand alone.

By December, 1994, Jamz became the first radio station in Freeport, where it was welcomed by the late Rusty Bethel, the "voice of the Bahamas" and the "father" of radio ZNS. Mr. Bethal was the first to flip the switch to turn on the first FM station to enter Freeport that Saturday. In 1995 Steve Haughey took over from Robert as general manager of the station and for the next 18 years the successful station has remained on the top of the charts.

As with private broadcasting, 100 Jamz has been the trendsetter in the organising major music events, promotions and charitable campaigns for the past 25 YEARS. During the late Nineties, 100 Jamz hosted JAMZFEST - a massive music festival featuring musical artists from across the United States and the Caribbean - the first of it's kind in The Bahamas. Over the years, this sold-out event showcased top hip-hop,R&B and reggae performers like Boys II Men, LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliot, Nelly, Ginuwine, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Destra and others. Thousands would pack the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre to dance the night away to the harmonious sounds of entertainers previously heard only on the radio, now live on stage within reach.
